consumer group urges Ortho Evra ban

Public Citizen, an 80,000-member nonprofit organization dedicated to consumer advocacy, petitioned the FDA to ban Johnson & Johnson’s contraceptive Ortho Evra (ethinyl estradiol/norelgestromin). The organization requested complete removal of the contraceptive within 6 months.

Ortho Evra birth control patch label change

The FDA approved a label change to Johnson & Johnson’s Ortho Evra on January 18, 2008. The has been known to cause blood clots which can lead to pulmonary embolism and death. The label change comes after testing revealed women on the between the ages of 15-44 are at a higher risk for pulmonary embolism.
